Advances in electronics technology have made our lives easier and more enjoyable. You have to look no further than your own home to see how much rely on electronics to perform day-to-day tasks using items such as washing machines, fridges, freezers and vacuum cleaners.
Electronic items including computers, TVs, DVD players, digital cameras, MP3 players have become entertainment staples in our lives. How much energy do these electronic products use? Where do they go after we are done with them? Do they simply become electrical waste?
Approximately 1 million tones of electrical waste is produced in the UK (Source: WEEE) and the duration of time we use each product is on the downswing. Additionally, a large part of our energy consumption in the UK goes to power consumer electronic goods.
Luckily, manufactures are starting to make sustainability considerations an integral part of the process of producing new electronic products. Making greener electronic choices by taking into account energy efficiency, quality and the recycling potential for the electronic goods we purchase can go a long way to cutting our CO2 emissions and saving us money.
